JCOC aims to assist all our neighbors who are in need of help. However, sometimes, our assistance may not be adequate to those who come to our doorstep. That’s why we created this list of other local nonprofits and their ministries, so that you can be provided with every option possible to best suit your needs.

JCOC is a community help agency for residents in the 36265 zip code. It is supported by 23 area churches, community groups and caring individuals. This agency provides groceries, fresh vegetables in season, pet food, assistance with utility bills, nutrition education, school supplies, Christmas Toyland, prescriptions and other needs. It is required that you bring ID and SS#. They refer to other agencies also.

A garden plot located at the corner of W. Francis and Spring Streets. Both spring and winter gardens are planted and tended by volunteers. The public is encouraged to come by 11 am on Tuesdays and Thursday during harvest times, and the volunteers will make sure that there is plenty to feed your family. Additional fresh produce is at JCOC, next door.

They offer such services as Case Management Services, Counseling for Crime Victims, Parenting Classes, Survival Skills for Women which assists participants in becoming empowered by knowing their strengths, FOCUS program which helps families stay together through intensive in-home training, GED classes on Monday and Wednesday from 8-12, and Financial Education Program. This is the best place to start to find out who can help and how.

All Saints Interfaith Center of Concern is a Catholic agency that serves people regardless of religious affiliation. They offer clothing, food pantry, counseling, emergency rent assistance, educational opportunities, prescription assistance and utility assistance. They do intake on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. They can assist people with electricity with heating and cooling bills in February and June. The maximum a family can receive is $300.

Community Enabler offers food and clothing to anyone who finds himself without food or clothing, such as low income to no income. They offer assistance to senior citizens, and they guide clients to other groups who could give assistance, There is a grocery store on premises, a sanctuary, and a room with furniture, household items and appliances for eligible clients.

St. Michael’s Clinic is open on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 to 3 on a first come, first served basis. One must have no insurance to receive their services. An ID and proof of income are required. They have a nurse practitioner or physician assistant on site. They are planning a Hispanic clinic on second Friday every other month. They offer basic primary care needs such as COPD, blood pressure, colds, flu, and diseases that need to be closely managed.

Quality of Life serves people who are on Medicaid or do not have insurance. They have a sliding fee scale for medical, dental, optical services, behavioral health services, prescriptions and much more. The minimum fee is $20. It is a federally funded health care agency. Second Chance serves 7 counties and deals with sexual assault and domestic violence. They offer counseling, career training, and a plan to help them lead an independent life. 2nd Chance offers 24 Hour Crisis Line, Court and Child Advocacy, Support Groups, limited transportation, and Case Management. They have a Thrift Store where their clients can get clothes, shoes, and/or coats that they need.
